Q.1. What is Kartavya & where is it located?
Ans. Kartavya is a non-profit organization run by college students in pursuit of educating the slum children residing near their college campuses. It was founded in Dhanbad but now has been expanded to various colleges in India.
Q2. Does volunteering in Kartavya affect education of students?
Ans. No, giving one and half hour in a week does not affect the volunteer’s study. This is the purposeful investment of leisure time . It helps in improvement of various managerial skills.
Q.3. what are the ACTIVITIES associated with KARTAVYA?
Ans Basically ,evening tuition is provided to children.They also attend schools.There are Libraries in slums with all facilities so that the children can complete their homework .
Q.4. How is this managed?
Ans. Each volunteer has to go once a week only for 2-hours. There are separate teams for teaching, finance, extracurricular activities, computer education, vocational training for their parents, website etc.
Q.5.Is Kartavya part of any institute?
Ans. No, but coincidently founded at ISM Dhanbad by some of its students a decade before.
Q.6. How does the organization get its funds?
Ans. Donations from students and alumni, selling of old newspapers from hostels and through contribution by philanthropists.
Q.7. Why one should join kartavya?
Ans. Everyone has some responsibilities towards the neglected part of the society. It is only college, where we get some time to think about those who have been deprived. Above all by teaching for 2 hours a week one gets enormous satisfaction. The people who are not in college now can provide some financial help for these slum children's education.
Q. 8.I am willing to join Kartavya. Where should I apply? What is the procedure?
Ans. If you are a college student where Kartavya is already functioning then contact the coordinator there. If not, then try to locate the slum area or any village where children are not attending school. Where there is poverty, where there is no school at all, start with only 5 children and expand your base. Visit any of the nearest Kartavya centers to see the management
Q.9. Can I start a subgroup of Kartavya?
Ans. Yes.
Q. 10. Do these students go to school?
Ans. Yes, most of the kartavya Student have been admitted in good school by kartavya
Q.11. From where does the books come?
Ans. School books are purchased by us but books for libraries are collected from donations.
Q.12. How is the organization run during the vacations?
Ans. We recruit the local graduate girls for our evening tuition classes to maintain the regularity when we are on vacations. They are paid with Rs. 800 per month.
